It’s just like Master Splinter always said: “Heroes aren’t born. They’re developed.” Or something like that. Quotes from the reasonably good 2007 TMNT film aside (It had Sir Patrick Stewart in it!), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge has been announced! It will be developed by both Dotemu and Tribute Games, who have both shown mastery over the 2D beat ’em genre and retro aesthetics. Shredder’s Revenge is a new game but very much influenced by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games from the 16-bit era, most notably Turtles in Time on the SNES.

The game will also include both local and online multiplayer where up to four friends can take on Shredder and crew. The game has been confirmed for consoles and PC but the exact consoles have not been shared yet. We also don’t know whether the game will support cross-play yet. Dotemu has confirmed the game is taking inspiration from the 1987 animated series in terms of aesthetics and music but will feature modern enhancements that help provide a smoother experience than the classic TMNT games. Dotemu has also revealed there are old-school TMNT fans at both Dotemu and Tribute Games, all who are working to provide the best experience possible. Another thing that should help fans of both Ninja Turtles and the beat ’em genre eat their pizza in peace is that Tribute Games has Ubisoft veterans that worked on Scott Pilgrim vs the World: The Game.

Cowabunga says it all

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge is going to pack a lot of replay value. Each turtle has their own skillset, which will give everyone a unique experience while playing together or replaying in single-player. We already know that Dotemu takes their video game soundtracks seriously and so I’m super excited to bump this soundtrack while performing important cleaning around the house or doing something awesome, like eating pizza and playing games. Don’t worry, I’ll eat the pizza with a fork if I’m chowing down while playing games!

Righteous!

There’s no concrete release date yet but it sounds like it’ll be radical whenever it’s out of the oven. I’m really hoping the game features cross-play too because this game sounds like the game we’ve all been waiting for since Turtles in Time: Re-Shelled was removed from Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3’s digital shelves in 2011. Check out the trailer below to get excitement and expectations properly pre-heated for cheesy cowabunga goodness. In the meantime, there’s plenty of time to go play Dotemu’s latest and greatest game, Streets of Rage 4, which is worth playing for the soundtrack alone! You can wishlist the game on Steam right now if you’re interested and want to show the turtles and hard-working devs some support!

Josh really likes video games. Horror is their favorite but they also like other stuff.
